As CCA is now helping us publicize Frontier Firearms’ new program, may we assume that you’re boss has accepted my offer and is willing to help us hand out coupons for free TN Handgun Permit Classes for Knox County residents at his Knoxville store? If so we are grateful.

To be honest I was unsure how to reach CCA’s Knox county customers about our coupons for a FREE permit class. Thus, you can imagine my delight when I saw that CCA is giving us a “leg up” by posting our program on the CCA blogs which are surely read mostly by CCA customers and or potential customers.

On top of that having our coupons passed out right inside CCA’s store will beat the heck out of standing on the road side passing them out as people pull into CCA’s parking lot! LOL! Seriously, if there is anything we can do to return the favors let me know.

Trevor, since he appears predisposed to helping Frontier, I was wondering… since Jonathon is held in such high esteem by other gun shop owners, do you think he would mind calling a few of the local shops in the Knoxville area on our behalf to ask them if they would distribute our coupons too. I am sure you see the good sense in this. After all the faster we get our program going the sooner CCA won’t have to waste valuable time with permit classes. Based on what you told us when you worked at Frontier, the handgun classes are a big pain for CCA customers because they knock members and walk-in shooters off the range (too bad CCA doesn’t have two ranges in one building like we do).

Also, the faster the handgun permit people are gone, the sooner CCA’s other shooters won’t need to contend with that old ventilation system overloading and choking people out each time three or four shooters fire at once. (LMAO! a thought just hit me - it seems we are already doing CCA not one but TWO big favors – freeing up range time for your members AND helping make your range safer. LOL! Imagine that)

Anyway, how many of our coupons for our FREE CLASSES do you feel Jonathan will want to pass out at CCA Knoxville? I was thinking maybe starting with 500 and I could bring more when those are gone. Just let me know and I will personally drop them off along with some Claxton Fruit Cake and eggnog (yes, it’s that time of year and based the things you told us about Jonathan he really like the likes the Fruit cake).

Also, I am still waiting your thoughts on the Class III issue. Last year you were adamant that it wouldn’t take much for Frontier to outperform CCA in this area. I guess I should have listened, but as I said earlier I have always been reluctant to intentionally go after a market niche where another man had staked out a claim, but times change and sometimes one is forced by others into taking distasteful action….

Trevor,
As you seem never to be busy, would you mind asking Jonathan if he would hand out our coupons (see below) at CCA.   We have already enlisted several Knoxville area gun shops to hand them out as “spiffs” to their customers, so I thought he might like to do the same - you know use the coupons as a kind of bonus for his Knoxville store customers.
Anyway as it stands now by the end of the month most every gun shop in Knox County and the surrounding area with a good supply of these coupons.   Honestly, I have been more than a bit surprised how receptive the shop owners are to handing them out for us. Once the program gets rolling it won’t be long before everyone in Knox County knows not to pay for their handgun permit classes.
Also, tell Jonathan not to worry should he be concerned that we will fill our classes up with non-paying students. Our classroom is certified by the Fire Marshal for 35 seats and limiting the number of freebies in each class to ten we will still have plenty of room for paying students. Moreover, as you know as we have two ranges the classes don’t interfere with members and walk-in shooters.
It’s funny but until CCA began offering free classes in our market area I would have never dreamed of doing such a thing. But I think in the end it will really help Frontier because it should bring a lot of Knox County residents to us that might otherwise have gone to CCA.
One thing that bothers me though – as no one has ever done free classes for Knox County residents I fear that our doing so may really limit CCA’s ability to sell permit classes. Here in Roane County the RCSO has done free classes for years and it hasn’t hurt us. However, I would hate to find out when all the gun shops in Knox County and surrounding areas start handing out our free coupons that it cuts into the number of permit classes sold at CCA Knoxville.
Trevor, you know that I have never operated my business in order to hurt others but it seems my hand has been forced (as an aside we trying to decide whether or not to apply for our Class III – as I told you before when you tried to talk me into going Class III that I didn’t want to “break another man’s rice bowl” i.e. mess with another man’s livelihood intentionally but it seems the situation has changed now and I must alter my thinking on such matters – what do you think?).
Anyway, let me know what your boss says – whether he wants me to drop some coupons off or not. Let me know ASAP as I sending the art printers on Monday (figure we will start off with 2,500 coupons but will get more if he decides to hand them in his store).

As some of you may remember. In March we announced that we would be giving away a CCA custom built 1911 pistol to a local combat wounded veteran.

A committee was formed of combat veterans representing each branch of our military forces. The committee was given the very difficult and daunting task of choosing a recipient of the 1911.

After months of meetings and countless hours spent reviewing applications. One name was always at the top of the list: Captain Mark Brogan United States Army.

Rick Newstrom

Rick Newstrom has 24 years of experience in night club security, private security, private investigation, close personal protection and fugitive recovery. He has been a NRA Pistol Instructor for 19 years and taught thousands of individuals in the state carry classes of Florida and Minnesota before recently moving to Tennessee.

Rick has taken numerous security related classes from Mid-Florida Technical School in Orlando. He has trained extensively with U.S. Special Forces operators in close quarter combat techniques. He has been an accomplished student in several forms of martial arts. Rick has been an avid shooter, hunter, and MN Department of Natural Resources Hunter Safety Instructor.

Rick spent 17 years as a public school teacher at the Robbinsdale Area Schools in Minnesota. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Studies and a Masters Degree in Economic Education from St. Cloud State University

Rick has won curriculum writing contests on the state and national levels. He also served as the Robbinsdale Area Schools Energy Manager and Director of Security. There he was in charge of 28 buildings and wrote the district's emergency procedures manual.

You will find Rick to be very knowledgeable, earnest and easy to relate to in the classroom. He will keep things interesting and well paced with a variety of teaching techniques.

Eric L. Matson

Eric L. Matson is a retired Wisconsin law enforcement officer and currently a Special Deputy in Tennessee with over 25 years of experience in Corrections, Patrol, Investigations, Narcotics Investigator and Tactical Team Leader. He also served as a tactics instructor and department range master/firearms instructor and has taught courses for several colleges. How to properly lubricate your GLOCK pistol

We have received mucho positive feedback about our recent AR15 lubrication primer, and were asked, 'Hey man, what's your secret to keeping a Glock pistol lubricated?"

Well. Here is our tutorial on how to properly lubricate your Glock pistol:

Field strip your Glock (or similar) pistol like so.

Clean all parts with a quailty solvent prior

to lubrication.

For this tutorial we are using Lubrilate 130-A.

You can use whichever gun lube you like.

Place a small drop of lube forward of the ejection port.

Smear it around until you get 100% coverage (over application for visual).

Small drop inside both rails keeps the slide running smoothly.

Small drop on the barrel.

And then rub it in to coat.

Small drop inside of the frame.

Small drop inside the lug and you're done.

How to properly lubricate your AR15 type rifle

Much has been said about what is and what is not the proper way to lubricate the AR15 type rifle.

This tutorial will hopefully end much of the speculation and give you an easy to follow system that

will result in a flawlessly functioning firearm.

These are all the parts in an AR15/M16 that require proper lubrication. Clean them with quality solvent prior to lubrication. Our choice of lubrication varies, but for this demonstration we are using Lubriplate 130-A which is the Mil-Spec grease.

Next step, apply a light coating to the exterior of the bolt.

We like to apply a small drop to the firing pin retainer. It is not necessary.

Here is where most people miss the mark. There are small rails on the exterior of the carrier. They will be come more visible with use. Note the shiny areas along the top and bottom of the carrier.

Apply a small amount (once again more is applied for visual) along the carrier rails.

Rub it in until it leaves a slight coating.

Place a small drop at the tip of the charging handle where you see the shiny area(s).

Coat the charging handle. This is not a required step, but it lessens the wear on the handle as well as the upper and lessens the drag when charging the firearm.

The reassemble and enjoy a few thousand rounds of jam-free shooting.

Making Transfers Easier and Cheaper!

Buying a gun from a dealer or individual out of state?

We've just made it easier and cheaper!

The first thing you need to to is to purchase the firearm that you are wanting to get transferred in, we cannot do anything until the firearm has been purchased.

If you purchased the firearm from a dealer, you need to contact us with their fax number, along with the first 3 and the last 5 numbers of their FFL license number (for FFL verification), and then we will send them a copy of our FFL. The sending dealer also needs to include a copy of their FFL in the packaging with the shipment of your firearm, additionally they can send a copy of their FFL in an email at transfers@coalcreekarmory.com or fax us at 865-966-4500. Note that sending a fax or email does not exempt you from sending a copy with the package when it is shipped.

If you purchased the gun from an individual, they do not need a copy of our FFL to send the firearm to us, nor will we send one to them. Individuals need to include a legible photocopy of their drivers license in the package when they send the gun to us. You need to get a tracking number from the company or individual that sent the firearm, we do not alert you when your gun has arrived so it is your responsibility to know where it is and when it gets here. Once you see the firearm has been received by Coal Creek Armory, give us until 5pm of the day it arrives for us to get it booked in from our receiving department and ready for pickup.

Be sure to call before coming to make sure that your firearm is ready. The transfer fee for a non-class III firearm is $25.00 plus the standard $10.00 background check associated with any firearm purchase. Class III transfers are $100.00 per. If you have any questions about your transfer, please call us at 865-966-4545 prior to purchase.


We have a new service starting that will allow us to better inform you when your firearm has arrived in our store. You may send a copy of the form below to the dealer you are purchasing the firearm from and have them fill it out or you may fill it out yourself. Send the completed form to us via mail, email, or fax and it will make it easier for us to track your firearm and call you when the firearm is ready to be picked up. We do appreciate your cooperation and hope that this will make the FFL transfers a much smoother process.

PUGH, CHARLES "DAVID" - of Maryville, TN, departed this life suddenly on October 28, 2010 in his 40th year. He was the beloved son of Dick and Ginny (Black) Pugh of Melbourne, FL. He was born in Chicago, IL on November 13, 1969. David grew up in Fairfax and Midlothian, VA. He was a 1988 graduate of Midlothian High School where he was a member of the football and wrestling teams. He was fortunate to have traveled the world in his lifetime with his parents. He attended West Virginia University and Florida Institute of Technology. He was an active member of Alpha Eta Rho, International Aviation Fraternity. After receiving his degree in 1994 in Aviation Management from FIT, he moved to Chicago, IL where he was employed by United Airlines. He was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Maryville. Dave was an avid animal lover and volunteered his time at Village Animal Hospital. His ambition was to become a veterinarian and he moved to the Knoxville area to attend the University of Tennessee. He was a firearms enthusiast and was employed by the Coal Creek Armory gun shop and shooting range where his outgoing personality earned him many friends. He never met a stranger and was affectionately known as "The Big Guy". He truly was a larger than life character and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his beloved four-legged "kids"; Husky, Abby, Belle, Prince, Elvira, Oz and Herman as well as a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. A celebration of David's life will be held at Keller Funeral Home in Dunbar, WV on November 4, 2010 at 2:00 pm. The family will receive visitors two hours prior to the service. The Rev. Rod Hale will officiate with special tributes offered by Rico Reardon and Beth Carroll. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in David's memory to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at www.aspca.org or call 1 800 628-0028.
